White Eagle Road crossing completion

White Eagle RoadWork has been held up on the crossing of White Eagle Road, and Haydon End lane while the contractor awaits a kerbing machine. Completion is due by September 8th, when at last, this area will start to look better. Pot holes, street lighting and a general clear up next, hopefully.

Hardy Close ready for tarmac

Hardy CloseThe ironworks have been prepared for tarmac laying, along with those on the outstanding section of Havisham Drive, Thursday and Friday 27/28th August, weather permitting. The intention is to finish work on Hardy Close before Orchid Vale School returns for the autumn term.

Estella Close - possible temporary access restrictions

Havisham DriveThe final surfacing of Havisham Drive should be taking place this Thursday and Friday which could result in occasional access difficulties for Estella Close. The following is taken from a letter that all affected residents should be receiving soon.

Please be aware that surfacing works to roads adjacent to your property are due to be carried out (weather permitting) on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th August. We will endeavour to keep access restrictions to your property down to the minimum but please ensure that all vehicles are clear of the carriageway during these works.

We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption this will cause and will endeavour to complete the works swiftly and efficiently.

Road Works in Havisham Drive

Havisham Drive Road WorksAs part of the final ground works for what is called areas H74-H75, work has started on the roads and pavements around Havisham Drive and Estella Close. The instruction given to the ground workers is that no access will be blocked ie no drives or entrances, during this process. No final date for the wroks has been given as yet, apart from by the end of July.

Helping Arms

Helping ArmsI have received this message, but not had time to investigate:

We have received a leaflet this morning about a 'charity' collection that will take place on Tuesday.

The leaflet gives the company name "Helping Arms" and a company number.

Being slightly suspicious I googled this company and found numerous hits on how this company is not a charitable organisation and sells donations for a profit!

Residential Care Accommodation in Haydon End

Site of care homeAs GBHSwindon says, "there are now 2 applications on the planning site at swindon.gov.uk for the care home." The original application, S/RES/08/0684, is for the "Erection of Residential care accommodation comprising 83 no. bedroom care home and 14 no. extra care apartments (revised scheme)"

The original proposal was rejected on parking and transport grounds.

Wildlife Survey

wild life survey

If you wondered about the mountaineering being carried out in Haydon End, it is for a Wild Life survey. This is necessary prior to any tree surgery to remove dangerous branches etc, in case bats or other wildlife have taken up residence in some of the trees.

Torun Way Bus Gate

Bus gateCouncil officials have now met the developers on site to discuss the 'Bus Gate' for Torun Way. I understand that it has been decided to install the bus-only gate at its permanent location - on Torun Way between its junction with Casterbridge Rd and White Eagle Rd - together with the necessary permanent signage and legal order. In due course and subject to available resources the Police will enforce the restriction.
