Is parking becoming a problem?

Redhouse Residents' AssociationAs more and more houses become occupied, is parking becoming an issue in Haydon End? Both the people of Upper Stratton and Redhouse re seeing increasing problems. The Swindon Advertiser staes in an article of August 7th, titled "Police Crackdown in new bid to keep pavements and roads clear":

"MOTORISTS who park dangerously in Upper Stratton will soon receive £30 fines in a police crackdown launched after complaints from residents. Officers this week delivered about 100 warning leaflets to homes in areas where vehicles are regularly left on pavements, too close to junctions, or in other inappropriate locations.

One of the main problems is cars parking on the pavements, thereby forcing pedestrians and people with pushchairs or in mobility scooters onto the roads."

Redhouse Resident's Association has written a report "Road Management and Safety in Redhouse." asking

Haydon End Lane Crossing

footpath crossingUpdate. The plans for the junction of White Eagle Road and Haydon End Lane are available at the Planning Office, Premier House, Station Road Swindon. Number: S/RES/072269.

The plans show that, when White Eagle Road is finished, it will cross Haydon End Lane, giving vehicular access across the lane. There has been considerable discussion in the planning file about the point at which the road crosses the lane. It appears that the intention is to minimise signage and "furniture", as it is called, by incorporating a pinch point. This pinch point will be at the point where the road crosses the lane.

Haydon End Lane/White Eagle Road

White Eagle RoadSome confusion exists at present, over the status of the pedestrian and cycle path at White Eagle Road. The uncertainty has come about because of the way in which the right of ways have been designated in the 'framework plan' and the planning permission given to Bloor and Matthew Homes. I will try and get to the bottom of this, but in the meantime if anyone has the definitive answer, please say. Is this crossing going to be for Emergency vehicles only, for pedestrians and cyclists, or for all traffic? The situation is unclear.

Torun Way - Thursday Street

Road SignsThe right of way at this junction has been a bone of contention for some while. There have been a few accidents and several near misses over the last couple of years. When the junction is complete, the right of way will be indicated only by the presence of a 'rumble' strip, across Thursday Street. I understand that there are no plans for the developers to place any additional signage at the junction. When the road is adopted, by the council, probably in a few years time, the council will be free to add signage as seen fit.

No snow today

Cycle BridgeIt's easy to catch the met office out, more difficult to predict the weather. The Adver for today (Monday 5th Jan) under the title "We'll have to wait for more snow" says "... nothing but dry weather and sunshine is forecast by the Met office for toady and tomorrow" (page 7)

Torun Way update

Torun WayFrom discussions with local councillors, I now understand the following:

One of the difficulties associated with the adoption of Torun Way is that the issues span several Council departments depending on whether they are construction related, road traffic act or Bus Gate related. Planning approved the design and road layout many years ago but the land and the road currently belong to the North Swindon Development Company (NSDC).

Haydon Wick Parish OfficeConcerns about the lack of right of way signs, and the number of near misses and accidents at the Torun Way/Thursday Street Road junction were raised at The Haydon Wick Parish Council At its monthly meeting on 18th December, Whilst acknowledging that the road was still in private hands, the Council agreed that the situation was unsafe.  It was agreed to ..

Bus Lane Signs

Bus LaneNew clear Bus only Lane signs have been added at the south end of Torun Way. The Haydon Wick Parish Council has been discussing methods to make the lanes effective and prevent the Bus only Lanes being used as "Rat Runs".

Road "unadoptions" causing problems

Torun Way Road junctionAt the Haydon Wick Parish Council meeting of 18th November, the slow progress of the adoption of roads in Haydon Wick, was raised by a concerned resident. Although the particular issue of the Torun Way/Thursday Street junction, shown opposite, was not raised, the minutes of the meeting recorded the following:

Dirt Pile to Go - Update 2

mudNow that the piles of mud have been removed, the North Swindon Development Company will be seeding this area in a month or so, when the grass seeding season starts. There is a danger that any grass sown now will dry out.

Dirt Pile to Go - Update

tipI've just been speaking to the North Swindon Development Company who assure me that the open space, by Havisham Drive will be landscaped in the next two weeks.

Apparently there are a number of issues that complicated the situation, such as the hard core left by Kings Oak, when they removed their Temporary Site Offices and a lack of areas to store top soil  as developers finished sites.

In the background of this picture, is the tidy area that Miller Homes has maintained, in stark contrast to the 'tip'.
