Broadband Woes II

cab 44According to BT, our “Primary Connection Points” (the green boxes to you and I) have now been connected to the new Haydon Wick Exchange. The problems don't seem to have gone away though.

[PCP or CAB 44 off Torun Way]

According to BT's "Openreach Blunsdon to Haydon Wick Exchange Migration Plan Issue 13 " all our Haydon End lines were migrated by 19 Feb 2008. They include PCPs 39, 42, 43, 44 and 46 for Post Codes SN25-

A few people seem to have been so angry with the lack of information about the change over, eg. broadband switrched off for days without notice, and suppliers not seeming to care what is going on, that they have decided to move ISP. At this point a new set of problems seem to have taken over. You are supposed to be able to have a 'seamless' switch over from one supplier to another, by requesting a MAC code

and this should happen within 5 days. There seems to be problems obtaining MAC codes from at least one local supplier, and I anticipate this is true for some others, the way this transfer has been managed. See Think Broadband for one set of problems.

Just for reference,

I had major problems getting my broadband connected when I had my new line putting in by BT.

I was with ISP in my previous home and all worked fine. I was told upon moving home that as far as ISP was concerned, they had been in touch with BT about 1000's of customers who couldn't access decent speeds on their new home lines after going through the Home Transfer Process.

They informed me that BT didn't have problems with the actual telephone line but problems with their Home Transfer Process

My ISP identified this problem eary in December and were busying gathering evidence for BT to prove this was an issue.

Might be useful info for anyone who is being told their line can't support broadband speeds ( I was quoted by BT and my ISP that max speed was 0.5Mb ) when in fact they might.

For reference, my current speed is around 3Mb or so.

Having been involved in many broadband installations, the biggest complaint is disinformation, and about very poor communication between BT and other I. S. Providers. I could fill pages with horror stories, but have little experience in North Swindon.

Surprisingly ... this appears to still be an issue with the Haydon Wick exchange. I'm listed as having 0.5 Mb capability (when my real sync speeds are 16 times that) and BT have stopped migration of my services to another LLU provider without giving any explanation.

What ever the cock up, BT have yet to rectify this almost two years on. There are probably a lot of bemused ADSL consumers in this region.
