No Bus Gate solution in sight

Bus GateThe Bus Gate was briefly discussed at the Parish Council meeting on June 16th, under a proposal to bring about early adoption of the roads and open spaces by Swindon Council (SBC). Following discussions with Cllr Justin Tomlinson and others in the council, I understand that:

  1. The Highway authority is reluctant to proceed with adoption until "the carriageway areas" are completed. This is unlikely to happen until most of the remaining parcels of land have been developed, particularly the one of Casterbridge Road. The developers' steering committee (?) is objecting strongly to the permanent positioning of the bus gate. SBC is negotiating "fiercely" with this steering committee.
  2. Once the gate "finishing works" are completed, and the relevant Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been advertised and confirmed then the police can enforce the bus gate.

I cannot get any estimate of a timetable for all this to happen, whether it will be one week, one month, one year or even one decade.

in the mean time do people using it get away with it if seen by the police?

Laa - it's not a case of 'getting away with it' as there is nothing to get away from.

The road is still privately owned by the developers who have given permission for it to be used. Until the road is adopted by the council and the bus gate is in its final position, the police, or local NIMBY residents, have no powers.

I live on Torun Way South (only two of us do) and when I bought my house I was told that my entry and exit was through the road out towards haydon wick. Hence why the road on Torun Way narrows. I am really conufsed now and don't know which way or what is going on. So which way or we suppose t obe going out?

I'm not sure of your exact location, but it sounds as if the eventual solution is as you already understand - south through Haydon Wick.Have a look at previous comments, mainly at:

or just type bus into the search box
